Craft Fair

Our next Craft Fair is just over a week away.  The last fair helped raise over £250 for Macmillan.

Looking for some Christmas stocking fillers - fancy a cuppa and a chat - come along - it will be fun.

Village Hall Part II

The Village Hall looks lovely with its new curtains, sewn by Angela Cheesmond.  The curtains make the room look cosy and the new fabric does actually go with the paintwork.

Springfield Veterinary Group have a number of vets and nurses who are participating in the Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal.  Here is a photo of the boxes they have prepared - ready to fill.

They are looking for a number of small items to fill the boxes - things like toothbrushes, small toys and items these children will use.

It would be lovely if we could make some little gifts to give to Springfields to help fill these boxes.

Our Little Village Hall

I'm sure a lot of people will agree that the Village Hall is a quaint, old little building with a lot of history.

The building was originally used as the village school.  It was opened in 1878.  The 1899 photo above shows the children who attended the school at that time.  You can see the school educated both boys and girls from about five to 14 years of age.

Over the years the upkeep of the Village Hall has fallen on the residents of the village who have purchased carpets, electrical items and drapery for the building.

The proceeds of our Craft Fair next month will go towards the purchase of fabric to make new curtains for the hall.

Pear Pin Cushions

We recently had a great demonstration from Pauline and we all enjoyed making a pear pin cushion.  They are about six inches in height

To be honest there are lots of possibilities in this project - could be re-sized and filled with either sand or rice to make a doorstop.  Made a teeny bit smaller and made up of Christmassy fabric would make lovely little decorations for Christmas tree.

Christmas Fair - Watch This Space!

Having had a chat at craft group last night, we have ear-marked Saturday 2nd November as being the day we will be holding a Christmas Fair.  We will have craft stalls, raffle, tombola, refreshments.  As usual we will be helping to raise funds for a local charity close to our hearts.

Watch this space for more details.

Bunting

Our craft group meet once a fortnight in the Village Hall, which is located in Adwick upon Dearne.

The hall was originally built to be used as the village school.  Of course, things change and the children of the village now attend a new modern, large school a short distance away.  The building then became the village hall - a place where the villagers can meet up for social evenings and group meetings.

The building is very quaint - one evening we decided to make some vintage style bunting - which could be used at events during the course of the year.

At the moment I don't have any photos of the bunting we made, but will do my best to get a photo on here soon.
